Queer|Art presents Holding it Together, a group exhibition bringing together 20 queer New York based artists organized in collaboration between Marco DaSilva, Isa López, and Beverly’s NYC. The exhibition is a fundraiser responding to the escalating defunding initiatives by the current administration, whose policies flirt with authoritarianism, formulating the precarious economic landscape we currently face. Rooted in principles of solidarity economies and mutual aid, the exhibition serves as an urgent call to collectively build systems of support to cope with the economic crisis through local, informal, and mutual networks. 100% of funds raised will directly support Queer|Art and participating artists.
Holding it Together, titled after Pol Morton’s painting in the exhibition, features artworks across various mediums that draw from lived experience, exploring memory held through objects, bodies, materials, and traditions. The exhibition considers these works as containers of remembrance, reflecting on sites of transformation and reclamation through histories, people, bodies and inherited cultural practices. Through reflections on erasure and recollection, the works deconstruct histories that continue to constitute the present, engaging themes of reclamation, abstraction, and the ongoing process of community and reimagining queer life.

A cinematic-performance ritual inviting the audience to be remade beyond colonial gender and genre, ‘Born With an Extra Rib’ takes us on an intimate spiral of epic scale where we are able to mourn who we were and clear the way for who we are to become.” Released in partnership with Trans Music Archive, nonprofit organization founded to record the history of trans music and safeguard its future through the preservation of physical music, this edition of three comes with a lyric ritual zine to accompany the listening experience.

ABOUT BEVERLY’S NYC
The exhibition takes place at Beverly’s NYC, a bar and art space that has served as a safe haven and gathering place for generations of artists for over a decade. As an artist-built and run bar, community-driven exhibition space established in 2012 in the Chinatown neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, Beverly’s exists outside the traditional gallery system and has cultivated its own life as a collaborative site for artists to gather and create in dialogue with one another. Founded in 2009, Queer|Art cultivates a dynamic community of LGBTQ+ artists across generations and artistic disciplines. We provide intergenerational mentorship, public programming, and material support to shape culture and drive societal change.
Our offerings re-build community in the face of the devastating loss of a generation of artists to the ongoing AIDS crisis, and address the lack of economic and institutional support for LGBTQ+ artists.
