Queer|Art|Mentorship has announced its eighth round of Mentors for the 2018-2019 Program cycle. The Mentors selected for the 2018-2019 program cycle represent a diverse and vibrant group of esteemed artists and curators whose work has made a tremendous impact across multiple sectors of the art world. Collectively, these individuals showcase a professional and cutting-edge approach to queer art production in New York City and beyond.
2017 Barbara Hammer Grant Winner Announced at Special Edition of Queer|Art|Film
On December 4th, a full house packed the main theater at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village to celebrate Los Angeles-based painter and filmmaker Fair Brane who was announced by New York City-based non-profit Queer|Art as the winner of the first annual Barbara Hammer Lesbian Experimental Filmmaking Grant. The award was announced during a special edition of the acclaimed screening series Queer|Art|Film, organized by Hammer and Vanessa Haroutunian, Queer|Art Program Coordinator to recognize the visionary women filmmakers who have influenced Hammer’s prolific career.
A Night to Remember: 2017 Queer|Art|Prize Ceremony
On November 2nd, a diverse and vibrant full-capacity audience of artists, supporters, and allies gathered for the first annual Queer|Art|Prize at Manhattan’s Hudson Mercantile. Queer|Art filled the cavernous space with dynamic installations and performances celebrating the thriving state of queer art today, and honored photographer Catherine Opie and rising multimedia artist and director Reina Gossett with awards recognizing their significant contributions to queer culture. Opie was acknowledged in the category of Sustained Achievement, while Gossett received the award for Recent Work for her intimately political animated short, “The Personal Things.”
Queer|Art|Prize Ceremony + Awards Info Announced!
Queer|Art has teamed with HBO for the first annual Queer|Art|Prize! Queer|Art|Prize presents two $10,000 awards to LGBTQ artists based in the United States: one for Sustained Achievement and the other for Recent Work. Featuring a Nominating Committee of over 40 esteemed arts professionals from around the country, Queer|Art|Prize confirms the impact of Queer|Art’s programming and support on a national level and immediately establishes itself as one of the most significant awards specifically created to recognize the artistry and contributions of LGBTQ artists.
