February

Silent Partners Grant - Each month, Silent Partners issues two $1,000 grants. Both are one-time payments awarded by our Decision Panel. These grants provide direct support to Brooklyn-based Black artists, activists, and community organizers to support their work. Deadline: Open all month, or until 100 applications are received.

Grant Wood Art Colony Interdisciplinary Performance Fellowship - The Grant Wood Art Colony and the School of Music is currently seeking a candidate in the area of Interdisciplinary Performance-Music. Review of Applications begins February 1, 2021 and continues until filled.

Soros Justice Fellowships - Open Society-U.S.’s Soros Justice Fellowships fund outstanding individuals to undertake projects that advance reform, spur debate, and catalyze change on a range of issues facing the U.S. criminal justice system. Deadline: February 17, 2021.

BRIClab Artist Residency - BRIClab is a multi-disciplinary residency program created to advance opportunities for visual artists, performers, and media makers. The program's four tracks are Contemporary Art, Film + TV, Performing Arts, and Video Art. Each track offers unique resources designed to meet the needs of varied artistic practices. Residents receive additional financial support, mentorship, skills-based learning opportunities, and documentation of their work. Deadline: February 18, 2021.

Puchi Award 2021 - The competition is open to books in any genre or form: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, novels, comics, picture books, essays, cookbooks, geography books, combinations of the above or any other type imaginable. We’re looking for one-of-a-kind book, or even a whole new kind of book. Deadline: February 18, 2021.

Sundance Film Festival 2021 Creative Producing Lab and Fellowship: Feature Film - The Creative Producing Lab and Fellowship: Feature Film is a yearlong program designed to nurture emerging producers with project-specific support through the Creative Producing Lab and Creative Producing Summit, grant support, year-round mentorship from an industry mentor, and ongoing support from Sundance Institute staff. The program is designed to hone emerging producers’ creative instincts and evolve their communicating and problem-solving skills at all stages of their next feature film project. Deadline: February 18, 2021.

Sundance Film Festival 2021 Creative Producing Lab and Fellowship: Documentary Film - The Documentary Film Program’s Creative Producing Lab and Fellowship is a yearlong program designed to nurture emerging producers with project-specific support through the Creative Producing Lab, year-round mentorship from industry mentors, and ongoing support from Sundance Institute staff. The program is designed to hone emerging producers' creative instincts and evolve their communication and problem-solving skills at all stages of production. Deadline: February 18, 2021.

Palm Springs International Shortfest 2021 - The Palm Springs International ShortFest is one of the largest showcases of short-form cinema in North America. The seven-day competitive festival is Academy Award, BAFTA and Goya-qualifying, screening annually more than 330 shorts from approximately 60 countries. ShortFest accepts submissions up to 40 minutes in duration, in the form of both fiction and non-fiction shorts. Categories include Animation, Documentary, and Live Action. Deadline: February 19, 2021.

LACMA Art + Technology Lab - LACMA's Art + Technology Lab program has published its 2021 RFP and is accepting proposals for artist projects that engage new forms of technology. Awards take the form of grants of up to $50,000 and as well as in-kind support from the museum and private partners in technology and science. Deadline: February 25, 2021.

OSUN Human Rights & The Arts Fellowships - The OSUN Center for Human Rights & the Arts invites applications for two one-year research and teaching fellowships in human rights and the arts. The positions are open to individuals working in a variety of fields where human rights and the arts intersect, including artists, curators, researchers, scholars, writers, filmmakers, advocates and activists. Deadline: February 26, 2021.

Unit 1 Gallery Open Call Solo Residency - The London gallery is offering one artist access for three months to one of its spectacular 350 ft² (35m²) studio spaces, with both natural and professional lighting. Working above the gallery space, the successful applicant has the opportunity to network with artists, curators, collectors and the wider public whilst visiting ongoing exhibitions and events organised in the gallery. The residency programme also provides guidance and promotion through our channels and network, as well as the Solo Residency Exhibition organised in the studio space upstairs. Deadline: February 27, 2021.

Countour Biennale Curator Assignment - The curator determines the concept, content and form of Contour Biennale 10. The curator has affinity with moving image and apart from curating the biennial is willing to search for connec­tions with the perfor­ming arts and music program­ming of nona. The assign­ment will run from June 2021 until December 2023. Deadline: February 28, 2021.

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Arts Center Residency - This Open Call will provide short-term, project-based residencies to artists and creative practitioners whose work is concerned with the broader themes of equity and sustainability. These are thematic anchors which applicants may either choose to address explicitly or elaborate on how their practice and/or projects are relevant. Deadline: February 28, 2021.

Open Call: Bauhaus Lab 2021 - Bauhaus Lab is a three-month research programme for scholars and practitioners in the fields of architecture, design, and curating. Participation is free, and all participants will be provided with workspaces in the Bauhaus Building. Furthermore, participants receive a contribution toward their housing expenses, and a modest per diem. Deadline: February 28, 2021.

Singapore Art Museum Residency - Open to both Singapore-based and international practitioners, across all discipline of the arts, the 2021 cycle focuses on processes and practices which engage with: Notions of “intimacy” and/or “infrastructures”, Impact on technology on contemporary life – sociability of the internet; connectivity and capacity of networked platforms; agency and empowerment in civic technology; and digital participatory platforms. Deadline: February 28, 2021.

TRANSLATIONS 2021: Seattle Transgender Film Festival - Translations: Seattle Transgender Film Festival is a groundbreaking film festival that provides the Pacific Northwest with a venue for films by, for, and about transgender people and the issues facing the transgender community. Deadline: February 28, 2021.

Undocupoets Fellowship - The Undocupoets Fellowship annually grants two $500 fellowships, with no strings attached, to poets who are currently or who were formerly undocumented in the United States to help defray the cost of poetry-related submission fees. Through our continued partnership with Catapult, 2021 Fellows will also receive a scholarship for a six-week workshop (or its equivalent value toward other Catapult classes). Deadline: February 28, 2021.

Creative Capital Awards - Creative Capital helps visionary artists in all disciplines build thriving careers, and every year we review applications from artists ready to take the next step in their creative practices. The selected artists receive the Creative Capital Award, which includes up to $50,000 in funding for bold new projects, as well as a wide range of counsel, career development, and networking opportunities to make their work come to life. Deadline: March 1, 2021.

De Ateliers Artists Institute Residency - De Ateliers is an artists’ institute open to artists at the beginning of their professional career. It offers a two-year studio and tutoring programme that is best tailored to the needs of highly motivated artists who wish to strengthen their artistic foundation, develop their ideas and deepen their practice in a focused, critical environment among peers from around the globe. Deadline: March 1, 2021.

Keyholder Residencies - The Keyholder Residency Program offers emerging artists free 24-hour access to printmaking facilities to develop new work and foster their artistic careers. Residencies are free and one year long, starting on April 1st and October 1st each year, and they take place in the shared Artists’ Studio, including the solvent/etching area and the darkroom. Deadline: March 1, 2021.

Chautauqua School of Art Residency Program - The Chautauqua School of Art residency program welcomes artists who have yet to receive wide recognition of their work, including those as young as 21 years old. College enrollment is not a requirement to attend our program. Artists who engage in all media are encouraged to apply. Deadline: March 2, 2021.

National Queer Theater New Visions Fellowship - An innovative new program for Black trans and gender nonconforming playwrights. The New Visions Fellowship will select two playwrights for a rigorous year-long professional development initiative aimed at celebrating the brilliance of and uplifting Black TGNC writers in the face of the systemic exclusion that Black TGNC writers have endured within American theater. Deadline: March 5, 2021

CUE’s Solo Exhibition Open Call - The Solo Exhibition Open Call provides emerging and under-recognized artists the necessary resources to present an exhibition at CUE in 2022. The selected artists will receive valuable mentor support from an established artist or curator on the selection panel, including a studio visit and installation guidance in preparation for the exhibition. In addition, exhibiting artists each receive a $5,000 honorarium and an accompanying exhibition catalogue with an essay written by a participant in CUE’s Art Critic Mentoring Program. Deadline: March 12, 2021.

KODA Artist Residency Open Call - KODA’s residency program is targeted to mid-career artists working in all media and creating conceptual and socially engaged work. While the term “mid-career” is up to interpretation, we consider artists having a significant body of works spanning several years, with min. 10 years of experience as professional artist, and previous solo exhibitions nationally and internationally, as “mid-career”. They are often without current gallery representation. The Open Call for our Fall 2021 Social Practice Residency program placed under the theme of Land + Environment opens in February 2021. Deadline: March 12, 2021.

Baldwin for The Arts Residency - Baldwin For The Arts is an artist residency program. Named for the writer, James Baldwin, BFTA nurtures the arts by offering creative BIPOC individuals an inspiring environment in which they can produce enduring works of the imagination. A Baldwin Fellowship consists of exclusive use of a private studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day anywhere from one week to four weeks. BFTA does not offer classes or instruction. Deadline: March 15, 2021.

Greg Grummer Poetry Prize - We are now accepting submissions for our annual poetry contest judged by Sabrina Orah Mark. The winner will be published online this May in phoebe 50.2. Deadline: March 15, 2021.

Institute for Electronic Arts Experimental Projects Residency Programs - One or two-week residency, with artist stipend, travel-support, lodging, technology access, materials, and technical assistance. Artists have access to a combination of emerging, contemporary, and historical media arts tools and materials, many are unique and not ordinarily available in a studio setting. Deadline: March 15, 2021.

Black Realities Grant - The grant awards a monthly cash prize to media projects that explore the varied conditions, experiences, feelings, empowerment and range of humanity of the Black global community. For this edition of the grant, we’ve partnered with Tribeca to support the winning project with a World Premiere at 2021 Tribeca Film Festival in the Immersive section. All formats, genres, and categories of screen-based projects will be considered including films, TV, games, apps, VR/AR experiences, photojournalism, and more. Deadline: March 23, 2021.

Salento International Film Festival - The Salento International Film Festival Is a celebration of films and filmmakers, promotes international independent films, in recognition of the fact that movies are the most powerful form of cultural communication and link between cultures' and peoples'. Deadline: March 27, 2021.

Bayard Rustin Residency - This residency, hosted by the Penington Friends House, provides up to one year of room and board to a person who demonstrates a strong project that addresses ending systemic racism and who has a necessity to be in New York City for up to one year. Deadline: March 31, 2021.

Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity Fellowship - Artists, media makers, and writers whose work focuses on race, ethnicity, and/or indigeneity in the United States can apply to be a Practitioner Fellow for the Spring academic semester. Deadline: March 31, 2021.

Artis Curatorial Residency at ISCP - New York-based curators or writers with curatorial experience can apply for a funded research residency at the International Studio and Curatorial Program. Deadline: March 31, 2021.

Artadia Awards (NYC) - The Artadia Awards provide financial support, exposure and recognition to contemporary Visual Artists. The awards are unrestricted, allowing artists to use the funds in any way they choose. Deadline for New York based artists: April 1, 2021

Franklin Furnace Fund - The Franklin Furnace Fund awards grants annually to early career artists to enable them to produce major performance art works in New York. Grants range between $2,000 and $10,000 based on the peer review panel allocation of funding received by Franklin Furnace. Deadline: April 1, 2021.

Marble House Project Residency - Marble House Project is a multi-disciplinary artist residency program that fosters collaboration & the exchange of ideas by providing an environment for artists across disciplines to live and work side by side. Our residency program is uniquely curated to bring together a diverse group of artists to facilitate exchange of different expertise, histories, techniques and perspectives. Applications for the artist residency program, family friendly residency and culinary residency open January 15th 2021, for the 2022 season. Deadline: April 1, 2021.

Fire Island Artist Residency - This residency offers five emerging artists who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer a shared live/work space in the secluded community of the historic LGBTQ settlement of Fire Island. The four-week program includes studio visits with, and public lectures by, renowned leaders in contemporary art and curation. Deadline: April 2, 2021.

Recess Session Open Call - Session supports the creation of new work by giving artists a project stipend, artist’s fee, technical support, mentorship, and approximately two months to transform Recess into a hybrid of a productive studio space dynamic exhibition platform. Deadline: April 10, 2021.

Bethany Arts Community Residencies - This residency is open to emerging and established artists for the development of both new works and works in progress. Artists from most disciplines can apply, including visual artists, writers, playwrights, choreographers, musicians, composers, performance artists, filmmakers, and more. Dedaline: April 15, 2021.

MacDowell Fellowship - MacDowell facilitates a balance between focused work and interdisciplinary interaction, among composers, writers, architects, film and video artists, playwrights, interdisciplinary artists, and visual artists. A MacDowell Fellowship, or residency, consists of exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for up to eight weeks. There are no residency fees. Deadline: April 15, 2021.

Austin Film Festival Playwriting Competition - Deadline: April 16, 2021

Culturehub Residency - Culturehub supports artists who critically examine technology from a diverse array of mediums and creative perspectives. Residencies come with a $2,500 stipend for the development of their project, access to a studio, equipment, and technical support, and more. Deadline: April 18, 2021.

Studio Museum Artist Residency - Studio Museum offers an eleven-month residency for three local, national, or international artists working in any media. Artists receive institutional guidance and professional development, research support, and a stipend. Deadline: April 19, 2021.

New York City Film, Video, And Digital Production Grant - Production grants of up to $30,000 for all stages of production, supporting early career film, video and digital production directors. Directors must reside in the five boroughs of New York City and work in the animation, documentary, experimental or narrative genres, or in any combination of these forms. Deadline: April 21, 2021.

aGLIFF / Prism Film Festival - The All Genders, Lifestyles and Identities Film Festival (aGLIFF) cultivates the Texas LGBTQIA+ community by enlightening, educating, and entertaining our clients and patrons through programs that enrich the LGBTQIA+ and ally communities while developing LGBTQIA+ awareness. Deadline: April 30, 2021.

Cave Canem Poetry Prize - The Cave Canem Poetry Prize is a first-book award dedicated to the discovery of exceptional manuscripts by black poets of African descent. The winner receives $1,000, publication by Graywolf Press, and more. Deadline: April 30, 2021.

Harpo Foundation Grants for Visual Artists - The award provides direct support to under-recognized artists 21 years or older. Deadline: April 30, 2021.

Sci-Fi & Fantasy Screenplay Competition - The best visual effects in the universe count for nothing if a story doesn’t have a world or characters that we care about. It takes unrestrained imagination to explore new worlds and character connections through timeless fantasy and awe-inspiring science fiction, and the best scripts in these genres are nothing short of magical. Whether you’re writing a contained science fiction drama or an epic fantasy saga, we want to read your feature screenplay or TV pilot! Deadline: April 30, 2021.

New American Paintings Competition - We sponsor six juried competitions per year. The forty winners of each competition receive a four-page, full-color spread in New American Paintings. Five of the annual competitions focus on geographic regions (Northeast, South, Midwest, West and Pacific Coast), and the sixth is only open to current Masters of Fine Arts candidates who are attending schools based in the United States, and current year graduates. Deadline for Western Region: April 30, 2021.

LA Femme International Film Festival - LA Femme International Film Festival is a premier festival that focuses on platforming women filmmakers “by women, for everyone”. Our Festival was created in 2005, when it became apparent that there was a need to enhance women behind the camera as Directors, Producers, and Writers. Deadline: May 1, 2021.

NOT REAL ART Grant - The grant provides $2,000 each to six contemporary artists working in the visual arts. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and reside in the US or Canada. Deadline: May 1, 2021.

William Greaves Fund Open Call - The William Greaves Fund is open to mid-career nonfiction filmmakers from racially and ethnically underrepresented communities in the United States and filmmakers in Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Colombia, with particular interest in those who identify as Indigenous and/or of African descent. It awards up to $40K to support research and development on feature-length nonfiction films. Deadline: May 1, 2021.

Queens Arts Artist Commissioning Program - The Artist Commissioning Program is looking for proposals for Queens choreographers, dance artists, and small dance organizations. Artists who receive a commission will earn a $250 stipend. Deadline: May 2, 2021.

Bemis Center Curator-in-Residence Open Call - This fully subsidized live/work residency is open to applicants strong knowledge of national and international contemporary art and a genuine interest in researching and responding to cultural production in Omaha and the region. Deadline: May 14, 2021.

National Performance Network Creation and Development Fund - The Creation & Development Fund supports the creation, development and mobility of new artistic work that advances racial and cultural justice and results in live experiential exchange between artists and community. Deadline: May 14, 2021.

Ragdale Fellowships - Fellowships help pay for the cost of residency, public programs, travel, and materials. Our fellowships recognize exceptional achievement as well as advance cultural exchange, emerging talent, social justice, and artists with special needs. The majority of our fellowships are underwritten by individuals on an annual basis. Fellowships support important new works, and they bring artists to our community who might not otherwise be able to join us. Deadline: May 15, 2021.

World Trade Center Artist Residency - Artists working to address social justice and activism are welcome to apply to the Silver Art Projects’s artist residency, which comes with mentors, workshops and more. Deadline: May 16, 2021.

The Studios of Key West Residency Program - The Studios of Key West, the premiere arts organization at the Southernmost Point of the United States, offers a residency program for emerging and established artists and writers from around the world. We provide residencies to visual artists, writers, composers, musicians, media artists, performers, and interdisciplinary artists. Deadline: May 17, 2021.

Art for Black Lives Artist Residency - This artist residency is open to Black Trans visual artists. The residency supports artists with a live work and space for a month in Palm Springs, and a $2000 stipend. Deadline: May 18, 2021.

Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant - The Arts Writers Grant supports both emerging and established writers who are writing about contemporary visual art. Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories—articles, books, and short-form writing—these grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies. Deadline: May 19, 2021.

Austin Film Festival Fiction Podcast Script Competition - Deadline: May 21, 2021.

New York City Short Film Festival - The NEW YORK CITY SHORT FILM FESTIVAL (NYC SHORTS) is an international short film festival dedicated to the short form. Following our first-ever virtual festival in 2020, in 2021, NYC SHORTS will celebrate its 17th annual edition. The festival screenings will once again take place in-person (pandemic-permitting) at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre at Symphony Space, a storied arts and film venue in Manhattan. Deadline: May 31, 2021.
