The QUEER|ART COMMUNITY PORTRAIT PROJECT is an annual commission of digital portraits, celebrating artists who are part of our diverse and vibrant community.

For the Queer|Art Community Portrait Project, artists from across different disciplines and generations gather once a year to participate in a marathon photoshoot event, sitting for their portraits as representatives of the Queer|Art community. Over time, the project will chart nuances of generational and personal growth within the community—as many artists return and new artists are welcomed into the mix—all seen through the lens of a different photographer each year.

2026 COMMUNITY PORTRAIT PROJECT

COMMISSIONED ARTIST: Clifford Prince King

For the 2026 Community Portrait Project, Queer|Art commissioned the luminary photographer Clifford Prince King. Known for his soft and cinematic portraits that often capture moments of black queer intimacy, Clifford’s work has been exhibited across the US and internationally.

This year, the Q|A community was fortunate enough to be invited into Clifford’s beautiful home in Flatbush, where we spent a perfect June day listening to his record collection as he took our photos. Over the course of 9 consecutive hours, 40 of our artists and community members passed through, with some sharing warm reunions and others meeting for the very first time. We were especially blessed to be able to take portraits of several mentor-fellow pairs, both past and present. Shot on film for the first time in CPP history, these luxurious portraits are a testament to the warmth felt on that day. We extend our utmost gratitude for both Clifford’s generous and inviting hospitality and the bonds forged between our Q|A family.

"I wanted to approach this shoot in the same way I'd shoot my personal work. Each portrait felt like a clip from a film about artists in New York,” said Clifford. “Witnessing the light change and the artists come-and-go throughout the day was a gift."
