WHAT YOUR SUPPORT
MEANS TO QUEER|ART ARTISTS

COMMITMENTS TO OUR DONORS

To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the organizations and causes they are asked to support, the Chronicle of Philanthropy has outlined a list of donor rights. After review and revision, QA affirms and commits to meeting these rights for our donors.

  • To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

  • To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its responsibilities.

  • To have access to the organization’s summary financial data.

  • To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

  • To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition in compliance with 501(c)3 regulations and in alignment with the organization’s donor crediting standards with the donor’s preferred form of acknowledgment.

  • To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and confidentiality to the extent provided by law.

  • To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will unfold in a way that is aligned with our organizational values of trust, honesty, and transparency.

  • To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization, or hired solicitors.

  • To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.

  • To feel free to ask questions about the organization’s operations, fundraising, and programming when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful, and forthright answers.

GIFT ACCEPTANCE POLICY

Queer|Art recognizes the significance and power of generosity through shared knowledge, dedicated time, and monetary support. Because there is potential for some contributions to have adverse impacts on our work and on relationships that are critical to our mission and community, members of QA’s Staff and Board is developing a Gift Acceptance Policy (GAP) to:

  • Provide the framing, values, and principles QA upholds in relation to accepting capital from other individuals and entities.

  • Guide prospective foundations, corporations, donors, and their representatives/advisors when making gifts to QA.

  • Direct QA’s Staff, Board, and artist community, with guidelines and procedures concerning contributions to the organization.

  • Establish QA’s position regarding contributions from sources that have caused harm to our community and create a process for reconciliation.

We anticipate finalizing the GAP in 2023 and look forward to sharing it with our community. For any questions regarding this policy, please reach out to L Marmon at lmarmon@queer-art.org.
