Queer|Art|Mentorship has announced its eighth round of Mentors for the 2018-2019 Program cycle. The Mentors selected for the 2018-2019 program cycle represent a diverse and vibrant group of esteemed artists and curators whose work has made a tremendous impact across multiple sectors of the art world. Collectively, these individuals showcase a professional and cutting-edge approach to queer art production in New York City and beyond.

2017 Barbara Hammer Grant Winner Announced at Special Edition of Queer|Art|Film

On December 4th, a full house packed the main theater at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village to celebrate Los Angeles-based painter and filmmaker Fair Brane who was announced by New York City-based non-profit Queer|Art as the winner of the first annual Barbara Hammer Lesbian Experimental Filmmaking Grant. The award was announced during a special edition of the acclaimed screening series Queer|Art|Film, organized by Hammer and Vanessa Haroutunian, Queer|Art Program Coordinator to recognize the visionary women filmmakers who have influenced Hammer’s prolific career.

A Night to Remember: 2017 Queer|Art|Prize Ceremony

On November 2nd, a diverse and vibrant full-capacity audience of artists, supporters, and allies gathered for the first annual Queer|Art|Prize at Manhattan’s Hudson Mercantile. Queer|Art filled the cavernous space with dynamic installations and performances celebrating the thriving state of queer art today, and honored photographer Catherine Opie and rising multimedia artist and director Reina Gossett with awards recognizing their significant contributions to queer culture. Opie was acknowledged in the category of Sustained Achievement, while Gossett received the award for Recent Work for her intimately political animated short, “The Personal Things.”

Queer|Art|Prize Ceremony + Awards Info Announced!

Queer|Art has teamed with HBO for the first annual Queer|Art|Prize! Queer|Art|Prize presents two $10,000 awards to LGBTQ artists based in the United States: one for Sustained Achievement and the other for Recent Work. Featuring a Nominating Committee of over 40 esteemed arts professionals from around the country, Queer|Art|Prize confirms the impact of Queer|Art’s programming and support on a national level and immediately establishes itself as one of the most significant awards specifically created to recognize the artistry and contributions of LGBTQ artists.

Queer|Art|Mentorship has announced its seventh round of Fellows for the 2017-2018 Program cycle. Each Fellow accepted has been paired with an established New York-based artist within their field for a yearlong mentorship. The relationship that develops aims to support the artistic and professional practice of the Fellow, as well as to develop community-wide conversations about what it means to generate and curate queer work in New York City and America. Collectively, those selected represent a snapshot of a new generation of openly queer artists making work today.

2016-2017 Queer|Art|Mentorship Annual Exhibition Announced

Queer|Art is pleased to announce the 2016-2017 Queer|Art|Mentorship Annual Exhibition: “Out from the Past & Into that Fog.” Organized in partnership with the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, the Annual will be presented at the Museum’s Prince Street Project Space (127-B Prince St.) from October 13-15th. The Annual includes a weekend of screenings, readings, performances, and a gallery exhibition, featuring new work by the 2016–2017 Queer|Art|Mentorship Fellows.

New Program Announced: Queer|Art|Awards

Queer|Art is pleased to introduce Queer|Art|Awards, a new program of grants, prizes, and awards that will provide various kinds of direct support—monetary and otherwise—to LGBTQ artists. Over time, Queer|Art|Awards seeks to include a spectrum of support that will benefit artists working in a variety of fields and mediums, as well as broader categories of support that will survey LGBTQ culture as a whole.

Queer|Art initiates the Queer|Art|Awards program with The Barbara Hammer Lesbian Experimental Filmmaking Grant.

Queer|Art is pleased and excited to announce that applications for the 2017-2018 QAM Program Cycle are now open!

Now in its seventh year, Queer|Art|Mentorship pairs early-career and advanced-career LGBTQ artists in a year-long exchange. This year’s program includes an incredible lineup of Mentors working in five different fields of artistic practice: Film, Literature, Performance, Visual Art, and Curatorial Practice.

We're very excited to share this news, and to have the brilliant and passionate Travis Chamberlain join the Queer|Art team as our new Managing Director. We've been working towards this day -- our first full-time staff hire -- since we became a fully recognized 501c3 non-profit organization in 2015, and it represents both the success of our 8 years in action, and our commitment to longevity for years and generations ahead.
