Founded in 2009, Queer|Art uses a model of mentorship to cultivate a network of shared resources that empower an intergenerational community of LGBTQ artists. The Queer|Art Programs & Operations (P&O) Assistant will work closely with the Managing Director (MD) and P&O Coordinator to support the programs and operations of this rapidly growing non-profit organization.
Primary responsibilities of the P&O Assistant include: conducting and organizing research on artists and other key players in our extended community; assisting with ongoing community outreach and engagement; and helping to produce several key events (including the monthly screening program Queer|Art|Film, the Annual Exhibition of Queer|Art|Mentorship, and the national awards program Queer|Art|Prize). This is an exciting opportunity for emerging producers, artist managers, community organizers, and arts administrators who are seeking diverse administrative, research, and production experience.
This is a temporary part-time position, 2.5 days per week (20 hours), through the end of December 2018, with possibility for extension. Compensation is $20/hr. Additional hours may occasionally be required.
-Conducting and organizing research on artists, foundations, donors, potential partners, and other key players in our extended community.
-Drafting and preparing social media updates about our artists and programs for various online platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
-Proposing edits, revisions, and additions for monthly newsletter.
-Working closely with the Managing Director to organize the nomination process for Queer|Art|Prize; Producing portfolios for artists nominated for Queer|Art|Prize.
-Assisting with adjudication processes for Queer|Art|Mentorship (September), the Barbara Hammer Lesbian Experimental Filmmaking Grant (September), and Queer|Art|Prize (June–September).
-Providing miscellaneous production support (set-up, breakdown, transporting items, email list, social media, etc.) during public events, including Queer|Art|Film (monthly), Queer|Art|Mentorship Annual Exhibition (October), and Queer|Art|Prize ceremony (November).
-Providing miscellaneous support during private community cultivation events.
-Helping to maintain and update database of Queer|Art constituents.
-Helping to track and file donations, donor correspondence, and press items.
-Assisting with distribution of promotional materials (mailings, drop-offs, etc.) for Queer|Art programs.
-Updating the website.
-Detail-oriented problem solver who takes initiative
-Strong research, drafting, and copyediting skills
-Commitment to LGBTQ rights and representation
-Thirst for LGBTQ culture
-Software knowledge (basics): Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Premiere, Microsoft Office, Google Docs
-Familiarity with Squarespace
-Production knowledge: Digital SLR camera (basics)
-Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent educational experience
